Excerpt from the Chancellor’s letter on the passing away:
It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of our Honorary Knight Dr. Roberto Maroni, who died on 22 November 2022 at around 4.00 a.m. surrounded by his family in Lozza in the district of Varese at the age of only 67 years after a serious illness.
After graduating in law, Dr. Roberto Maroni became a politician – first as a local councillor in his hometown of Varese, and later as Minister of the Interior, Labour and Social Affairs of the Lega Nord, where he was also parliamentary group spokesman and Secretary General for several years. Most recently, he was President of the Lombardy Region from 2013 to 2018.
During our Order Day in Milan in October 2015, Roberto Maroni was received as an Honorary Knight. The state funeral already took place on Friday, 25 November 2022, in the presence of the Italian Prime Minister and many high-ranking representatives of Italy. Representing the Order, our Commander for Italy Dr Massimiliano Lacota attended the ceremony.
